Fire testing and design of slender stainless steel I-sections in weak-axis flexure

چکیده

The structural fire response of slender austenitic stainless steel I-sections in weak-axis flexure is studied experimentally for the first time. presented experimental programme comprised local geometric imperfection measurements all test beams, room temperature material tests, a reference bending and series elevated tests. setup, procedure measured responses specimens are fully described. results demonstrate that, despite cross-section being slender, considerable inelastic strength reserves were displayed. Such behaviour has previously been observed at temperature. used to assess accuracy existing design provisions predicting moment resistances I-sections. Significantly improved capacity predictions achieved through application plastic effective width method which beneficial influence partial spread plasticity captured.

Stainless steel structures in fire

The initial material cost of structural stainless steel is about four times that of structural carbon steel, due largely to the expense of the alloying elements and the relatively low volume of production. Given broadly similar structural performance, additional areas of benefit need to be identified and exploited in order to establish stainless steel as a viable alternative material for constr...

Computation of Structural Fire Resistance of Steel Sections

The main object of this study is to compute the structural fire resistance for several steel members under different loading conditions. This is done in chapter 4 using two advanced calculation models. Chapter 1 contains prescriptions according to European codes, needed for this research. In Chapter 2 the notion of structural fire resistance is explained and also information about the types of ...

Performance of Stiffened Slender Built up Steel I-Columns

Abstract—The present work illustrates a parametric study for the effect of stiffeners on the performance of slender built up steel Icolumns. To achieve the desired analysis, finite element technique is used to develop nonlinear three-dimensional models representing the investigated columns. The finite element program (ANSYS 13.0) is used as a calculation tool for the necessary nonlinear analysi...

Stainless Steel Type 316Ti

Allegheny Ludlum Type 316Ti (UNS S31635) is a titanium stabilized version of Type 316 molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel. It is also known as DIN/EN designation No. 1.4571. The Type 316 alloys are more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion than the conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels such as Type 304. They also offer higher creep, stress-ru...
